Affirmed Walking to the Travers, 1978

In 1978 Affirmed was the reigning Triple Crown champion and considered one of the best horses of the year, but he had a close rival, Alydar.  Here he walks to the Travers which would be their tenth match race against each other in two years, it would also be their last.  Alydar would actually beat him in this race, his third time losing to him, but Affirmed would go on to take Horse of the Year for 1978 and hold the Triple Crown title for the longest of any horse, finally giving it up to American Pharoah 37 years later.
