A champion at two and three, the Pennsylvania-bred Go for Wand is pictured here winning the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park on June 10th, 1990. From 13 starts, the daughter of Deputy Minister had 10 wins and 2 seconds for her owner-breeder Christiana Stable. Her lone off-the-board finish was her 13th and final start, the 1990 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, when her cannon bone fractured and caused her to fall while on the lead in the homestretch. She was buried in the infield at Saratoga; the Grade 1 Maskette was renamed in her honor in 1992.
