In 1974, Princess Margaret of Great Britain came to stay with her friends in Lexington, the C.V. Whitney family. On Saturday afternoon they arrived at Churchill Downs, not necessarily for the Kentucky Derby later that day but to see the Whitney's horse run, and win, in the Debutante Stakes. Fans applauded her as she was escorted to a third floor box with her husband, Lord Snowden, and her security team. Here Tony captured her just as she was getting noticed by the racegoers. In a floral yellow dress and signature hat of the royal family, she waves to the crowd and Tony, whom would be the personal photographer to her sister, Queen Elizabeth II ten years later.
